Cycling Begins to Explore Angkor

Take a leisurely stroll along the beautifully developed walking path that passes by the Royal Palace, Preah Ang Chek Preah Ang Chorm Shrine, Kosa Pagoda, along the Siem Reap River, and charming local markets to uncover the captivating history and stunning architecture of this incredible site.

Cycling to Angkor Wat

We ride through peaceful forest trails and quiet back roads, avoiding the main tourist traffic. As the iconic towers of Angkor Wat rise above the trees, your guide shares their fascinating history. Built in the early 12th century by King Suryavarman II, Angkor Wat was originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu before gradually transforming into a Buddhist temple. The temple remains the world’s largest religious monument. Take time to explore the intricate carvings, towering galleries, and grand moat that symbolize Mount Meru — the mythical home of the gods.

Angkor Thom & Bayon Temple

We continue cycling toward Angkor Thom, the great walled city established in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII after repelling Cham invaders. Passing through the South Gate, lined with stone gods and demons, we arrive at Bayon Temple, famous for its 54 towers, each decorated with over 200 serene, smiling faces. These faces are believed to represent either the king himself or the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, a symbol of compassion. Nearby, we may also pass the Terrace of the Elephants and the Royal Palace area, once the center of imperial power.

Victory Gate & Lunch Break

Cycle toward the Victory Gate (often mistakenly called the “Death Gate”), historically used for ceremonial processions and military movements. Enjoy a traditional Khmer lunch in a peaceful setting. Refuel with authentic local dishes, fresh fruits, and cold drinks — well deserved after a morning of exploration.

Ta Prohm – The Jungle Temple

After lunch, we ride our bikes to Ta Prohm, also known as the Tomb Raider Temple. Built in 1186 by King Jayavarman VII, it served as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university. Unlike many other temples, Ta Prohm remains largely in its natural state. Massive silk-cotton and strangler fig trees grow through the ancient stone walls, creating one of Angkor’s most atmospheric sights. It offers a powerful illustration of how the jungle reclaimed the temples after the Khmer Empire’s decline in the 15th century.

Return Ride & Hotel Drop-off

After a rewarding day of cycling through centuries of history, we ride back through shaded forest trails. Guests may return to the office or enjoy direct transfer to their hotel (no need to pedal if your legs say “enough history for today!”).

Angkor Temple Pass: The $37 Angkor Temple Pass (1-day pass) is not included in the tour price. All guests must have a valid temple pass before the tour begins to ensure you don’t miss the magical sunrise at Angkor or need to ride in a group by buying a ticket on the spot. Passes can be purchased online or directly from Angkor Enterprise (the official ticket authority).

Hotel Pickup: Complimentary hotel pickup is included.Please be ready in your hotel lobby 20 minutes before your scheduled departure time. Our team will greet you and provide a short tour briefing before departure.

What to Wear for Cycling: Visiting Angkor Wat, shorts, a dress over the knee, a skirt, or comfortable cycling or activewear are recommended. Breathable clothing and proper footwear will make your ride safer and more enjoyable.

Dress Code for Visiting Angkor Wat: When visiting Angkor Wat and other temples inside the Angkor Archaeological Park, visitors are required to dress respectfully, as these are active religious and sacred sites. Shoulders & Chest: Tops must cover your shoulders.No tank tops, sleeveless shirts, or low-cut tops. Light scarves are not accepted as a substitute. Knees: Shorts and skirts must cover your knees. Capri pants, long skirts, or full-length trousers are recommended. Footwear: Comfortable walking shoes or sandals are suitable. Flip-flops are allowed but not ideal due to uneven temple steps. Not Allowed: Transparent clothing, ripped pants above the knee, short shorts or mini skirts, clothing with offensive images or text. Temple staff may deny entry if dress requirements are not met. Practical Tip: Lightweight, breathable clothing works best in Cambodia’s tropical climate. Early-morning tours are cooler, but it warms up quickly after sunrise, so dress modestly but comfortably. When in doubt, choose modest over fashionable — Angkor is timeless, and respect never goes out of style.
